Easy Living as Seniors

Geriatric Ergonomics
Eight Dimensions of Health & Wellness:

Now we realize (wisdom coming with aging) that proper ergonomics increase human performance and productivity, while decreasing workplace accidents. Now then, imagine a senior citizen who is well-past their prime and measurable athletic performance years. Ergonomics for seniors becomes serious business to prevent injury, perform daily tasks, and to heal from surgery.

As the body and bones become frail seniors are open for accidents, and many of the slips and falls they have result in huge problems such as broken hips, knee surgeries or wrist injuries. A senior with a wrist injury may stop brushing their teeth, or stop eating certain foods or taking their medicine as they cannot open the jars or bottles. They may stop sending emails and get depressed as they are unable to email family and friends.

is why it is so important to be aware of these things and act accordingly. They will need shower seats, special handles in the bathroom, bottle and can openers, and a comfortable supportive reading chair. These are critical issues although they seem so obvious to us. Until you’ve had an injury or been without the use of a limb, you do not understand, but they should not have to go through the pain or hardship because you didn’t notice.

Often seniors do not wish to complain or admit they are having problems with things, they want you to not worry and they wish to continue their independence, but please it is up to you to talk with them and ask them about these things. It’s amazing what a few simple things can do to improve their quality of life.

Trump Administration “Making Progress”

Classic Satire Made by Susan Keller:

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it looks like Rump is actually making America great again. Just look at the progress made since the election: LOL

1. Unprecedented levels of ongoing civic engagement.
2. Millions of Americans now know who their state and federal representatives are without having to google.
3. Millions of Americans are exercising more. They’re holding signs and marching every week.
4. Alec Baldwin is great again. Everyone’s forgotten he’s kind of a jerk.

pres-politics
5. The Postal Service is enjoying the influx cash due to stamps purchased by millions of people for letter and postcard campaigns.
6. Likewise, the pharmaceutical industry is enjoying record growth in sales of anti-depressants.
7. Millions of Americans now know how to call their elected officials and know exactly what to say to be effective.
8. Footage of town hall meetings is now entertaining.
9. Tens of millions of people are now correctly spelling words like emoluments, narcissist, fascist, misogynist, holocaust and cognitive dissonance.
10. Everyone knows more about the rise of Hitler than they did last year.
11. Everyone knows more about legislation, branches of power and how checks and balances work.
12. Marginalized groups are experiencing a surge in white allies.
13. White people in record numbers have just learned that racism is not dead. (See #6)
14. White people in record numbers also finally understand that Obamacare IS the Affordable Care Act.
15. Stephen Colbert’s “Late Night” finally gained the elusive #1 spot in late night talk shows, and Seth Meyers is finding his footing as today’s Jon Stewart.
16. “Mike Pence” has donated millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood since Nov. 9th.
17. Melissa FREAKING McCarthy.
18. Travel ban protesters put $24 million into ACLU coffers in just 48 hours, enabling them to hire 200 more attorneys. Lawyers are now heroes.
19. As people seek veracity in their news sources, respected news outlets are happily reporting a substantial increase in subscriptions, a boon to a struggling industry vital to our democracy.
20. Live streaming court cases and congressional sessions are now as popular as the Kardashians.
21. Massive cleanup of Facebook friend lists.
22. People are reading classic literature again. Sales of George Orwell’s “1984” increased by 10,000% after the inauguration. (Yes, that is true. 10,000%. 9th grade Lit teachers all over the country are now rock stars.)
23. More than ever before, Americans are aware that education is important. Like, super important.
24. Now, more than anytime in history, everyone believes that anyone can be President. Seriously, anyone.

Irony is Killing US – Four Kinds of Politics Identified by VP Joe Biden

8-8-16

Vice President Joe Biden and his father have identified four kinds of American politics:

  • Labor Politics
  • Religious Politics
  • Regular Politics
  • Cancer Politics

In a concerted effort to get everyone involved and cooperating on-the-same-page, the Vice President [and I wish Joe would become our 45th President] has coined a “Moon Shots Program” for the Cancer Community.

j v
Legendary Basketball Coach Jimmy Valvano

This Cancer Community appears to be operating in its own individualist self-interest. If only researchers, doctors/oncologists, colleges and foundations, patients and their codependents and helpers, philanthropists, and others would work together to find cures for many types of cancer, we Americans who suffer – and the human race – would be better off.

Joe is not far off by comparing the American effort during the 1960s to a current emphasis on cancer solutions and prevention for our current decade, which has only four years remaining.

The urgency is now to get egos and financial incentives directed toward non-selfish results . . . and hurry before my best friend dies!

As national champion Coach Jimmy Valvano said weeks before his death, “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up!”

Obama and Bo the Dog
President Playing Football with Bo;

Too bad he cannot run for president again.

Obama was good at running away from Republicans, too.

America does have a choice in this election: Vote Libertarian or Green Party

Last Night in “Glentucky” – New Year’s – 2000 Hours – Five Degrees Above Farenheit – Waxing to a Full Moon on 1-5-2015

I am warm inside a bed and breakfast close to downtown Glenwood Springs, Colorado. My friends who I have met in the regional homeless community are either staying in the basement of a Christian church in West Glenwood or in the basement of a Catholic church in Aspen. Each overnight program has many more than 20 participants. This does not include the multitude of families and children who locally receive food assistance. Dozens of other homeless people are ‘camping out’ even though the location they end up sleeping at may be a criminal defense.

In “Glentucky” alone, over 60 adults attended tonight’s Extended Table dinner hour in the basement of the First Methodist Church Tonight it was hosted by St. Mary of the Star Roman Catholic Church of Carbondale, Colorado, which is located about 15 miles south of Glenwood Springs and 25 miles north of Aspen. In Garfield County, there are four towns that serve some evening hot meals. Glenwood Springs and Aspen have daytime shelters for homeless and disadvantaged adults.

I will write more about how it was living almost seven consecutive months in this region of the United States of America. Right now I have to resume my packing… the next freight train going west leaves Glentucky about Noon.

P. S. On 12/31/14, I left a Janzsport backpack in the 1st Methodist Church basement dining room. It had a smartphone, 15 year old address book, passport, banking documents, and other personal effects. I never saw it again.

I tried to contact the church and the town’s homeless daycare center… no luck.

So hard, if not impossible to replace stuff like that.

Less than a week later, I got off the Amtrak train ill. Went to a hospital in Reno.

A day after that, my wallet was pickpocketed across from Harrah’s Casino on Reno’s Virginia Street. [needless to say, in retrospect 2015 sucked!]

Honestly, Reno Nevada = the worst city in the USA to be homeless!

Reno Treats Houseless People So, So Poorly… O Lord Have Mercy

Reno gets what it deserves… a series of earthquakes today on Christmas Eve, Eve.

The so-called “Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada” are not a Roman Catholic organization any longer. Run by bureaucrats and funded by federal, state, Washoe County, Douglas County, City of Reno, City of Sparks funds, and private charitable contributions from well-meaning Americans and others just looking for an income tax write-off.

Please give the needy what they need. Solutions, not excuses and half-baked ideas.

RENO (Nevada) ! Oh the way they treat houseless people is disgusting… the ghetto on Record Street, created by the Reno City Council, is a joke!

Catholic Charities USA in Reno Nevada is NOT A CATHOLIC ORGANIZATION but a group collecting federal, state, local, and private donations to cover their “administrative costs” and serve those god-awful lunches at St. Vincent’s Dining Room (no relation to St. Vincent of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (headquartered in the Archdiocese of St. Louis)… ‘come on, man!
